Amazingly picturesque canal. This runs from Cromford through to Ambergate. There is now a canal boat that runs part of the Canal for short trips. At Cromford there is a large car park and cafe. You can park here and walk the canal. There are other alternative stops and starts , with a small amount of parking at Whatstandwell (near the Family Tree tea rooms). There is also a cafe situated along the canal and the historic pump house that is open a specific times in the year.

lovely scenic walk in all seasons. walk to High Peak Junction or Whatstandwell.
A picturesque and relaxing place to walk on the flat, Cromford Canal was once a buzzing hub of the Derbyshire Industry. The Canal was last used as a working waterway in 1944.
If you want a change from hillwalking, try Cromford Canal. There’s a cafe at the start and in the adjoining Arkwright Mills ( largely restored and the birthplace of the factory system). Only 10 minutes drive from the Barn or you can walk via the HighPeak Trail.
